Once a Month Shannon's will post a fly of the month. Les hand selected one of his favorite fly patterns to share with all of you. This fly may be one of Les's creations, a new pattern from one of our local Fly Tiers, or one of the old classics.

Phase 2 1997

 

Hook:

 Dai Riki 270 #12-20

Tail:

 Lemon wood duck fibers. 

Wing:

 Ph.1 Fluff from bottom of mallard flank dyed wood duck. Ph.2 CDC feather, tan  or white.

Body:

 Lemon beaver fur, or rabbit fur.

Thorax:

 Same as body

Throat:

 N/A

RIB:  Brown Monocord
Head:

 6/0 pre-waxed buttercup yellow

 

 

 

 

 

 

Les' notes: Phase 2 came with the nice emerger hooks, and we fish these mainly in the film or just below.

Potamanthus, Stenonema, Stenacron
My notes: A good imitation of the May Sulphurs: Rotunda and Invaria ( in larger hook sizes) as well as the Dorothea. Note the 3X long shank on the Dai Riki allows for smaller hook sizes. This pattern is deadly when fished in the film as Les suggested.-JH
