April Showers. Hello, it's been a while...

On behalf of all of us here at Shannon's, I would like to thank all of our customers for your encouragement and support during this COVID-19 crisis. We continue to serve you, in a modified way. Please call or email us with questions and orders. Hopefully it won't be long before we can welcome customers new and old back inside to our historic shop on the banks of the South Branch here in Califon in some manner which keeps in mind the new reality we are all dealing with. The good news is that trout fishing is open and the state has stocked a lot of trout, I mean hundreds of thousands of fish in fact holding back only about 48,000 of the 575,000 that are annually released each spring.... Latest News: Opening and Closings

This coming Saturday April 11th is the official Opening Day of Trout Season in New Jersey. As many of you know the season was opened early so as to encourage people who wanted some time on the water to practice safe distancing and catch and release fishing on all open or standard regulation waters. By all accounts, people had a enjoyable time. Hopefully, more folks will release a few more fish. Now with the official Opening day upon us normal regulations will apply and anglers may keep six Rainbow Trout over nine inches in length as their daily creel limit. An Early Opener, Hatches and COVID-19 Update

After a special meeting this past Monday March 30th, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife decided to open the 2020 Trout season yesterday Wednesday April 1st. That means that all general regulation waters are open to fishing but the fishing for trout in these waters is on a strict catch and release basis until Saturday, April 11th. Furthermore, there will be no in-season closures for stocking on major trout streams such as the South Branch, Musky or any of the rivers which usually have an in-season closure meaning that any fishing before 5pm on those waters is usually prohibited.
